Memecoins

Duel tokens are memecoins. They have no intrinsic value, promise nothing and pay nothing.

In its Duel pool, a side never trades below its launch price in ETH: the pool holds the side's tokens only above that price, and nobody can add or remove liquidity. That floor is low, a market cap of about 1.69 ETH at launch, and it is no promise of an exit: when the price is back there, the pool has no ETH left, and whoever still holds the side cannot sell it for ETH there. Most memecoins, wherever they launch, fall back close to their launch price: buy far above it and you can lose almost everything you put in. The tokens are plain ERC-20s: a pool opened elsewhere can trade them at any price. In dollars, prices also move with ETH. Only play with what you can afford to lose.

Prices

  • Early trades move prices a lot. The pools start with a small virtual ETH reserve; initial buys and sells can move prices sharply.
  • Large trades cost more than fees. Price impact and a successful realignment can make an immediate sale return much less than the purchase cost.
  • Buys just after launch can be heavily taxed. With default terms, buys in the first ten seconds pay up to 98% of their ETH as an anti-snipe tax. The app shows the current tax.
  • Rounds are not predictions. The winner comes from the time-weighted log ratio of ETH prices. A buyback may be skipped and has a ceiling about 10% above its reference price (its exponential average, or its price when that is lower): not a guaranteed price increase, and often far less than a 10% move. Winning does not guarantee gains.

Smart contracts

  • The contracts have automated tests and an internal review, but no external audit yet. Bugs and losses remain possible.
  • The contracts cannot be upgraded and have no trading pause. The factory owner can pause new launches, change bounded terms for future duels after 48 hours, and change the protocol treasury after that delay. A later bug cannot be patched in live duels. The factory owner can also lower the protocol's share of every duel's swap fee at once, and raise it back, never above the duel's terms.
  • Duel also depends on Robinhood Chain and Uniswap V4; outages or bugs in those systems affect it.

Launching

  • Anyone can launch a duel, about anything, with any name, picture and links. Duel does not vet them. A duel named after a person or a brand is not endorsed by them.
  • The app shows only https links from a duel's details (and X and Telegram links only when they lead to X and Telegram), and only pictures it processed itself, from its own address: a duel's picture cannot track you or slow the page down. A scam can still use a convincing name or picture. Check the token's address on the duel's page before trading a duel someone sent you.
